이번 Special Lecture Series에서는 구유고슬라비아 국제형사재판소'(International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia, ICTY) 부소장을 역임하시고, 국제형사재판소(International Criminal Court, ICC) 당사국총회 의장을 역임하신 권오곤 재판관님의 " International Criminal Justice in a time of challenge and turmoil "이라는 주제를 다루고자 합니다.

○ 초록: The Nuremberg and Tokyo trials in the wake of World War II played a major role in developing the idea of international criminal justice. Fifty years later, the creation of the ad hoc international tribunals for the former Yugoslavia and Rwanda by the U.N. Security Council and their achievements have influenced the proliferation of internationalized hybrid tribunals such as the ECCC, SCSL, etc., and ultimately, the permanent International Criminal Court. International criminal justice has now become a significant part of the rules-based international order, sustained by the belief that peace and justice work hand in hand. However, the lack of cooperation casts a serious doubt on the efficacy of the system and the lack of universality may generate negative perceptions of selective justice. International criminal justice is very much a work in progress, and as such, we have an obligation to future generations to care for its development.
